How to improve BLOCKING without jumping differently
One of the most difficult skills in blocking is training your arms to move independently while in the air. Younger players think jumping high and reaching high is the key to blocking, but as we jump we need to loosen the tension in our shoulders in arms so our arms move freely to penetrate, reach into a seam or soft block a ball. Your jump and vision are critical, but once you're seeing the game from a consistent spot, you need to bring awareness to the arms. Here's how your arms should move, where they should be located at contact and a great BLOCKING DRILL to practice this difficult skill.
