The long-awaited demolition of an unfinished building that has stood for over 30 years has begun on Visaginas's main pedestrian avenue. Demolition work began on June 1st and is scheduled to be completed by the end of August. The area around the demolished building will be leveled and replanted with grass. The demolition work is being carried out by UAB Langasta from Zarasai. This contractor became well-known in our city during the construction of the bus station, which was built from 2022 to 2024, as well as the sledding hill in the third microdistrict. The construction was supposed to be completed by the end of last year, but the deadline has been repeatedly postponed. According to the Visaginas Municipality, the contract for the demolition of the unfinished residential building at 13 Sedulinos Avenue was signed with UAB Langasta on May 7th. The cost of the work is 107,690 euros including VAT. In November 2025, the Visaginas City Council approved the acquisition of this building and, upon becoming its owner, on December 24, 2025, decided to demolish it, deeming it unfit for use due to physical and functional deterioration. However, the issue of the remaining concrete slabs and basements of the demolished building at 15 Sedulinos Al., which is located next to 13 Sedulinos Al., has not yet been resolved. The building's owners, representatives of the company "Sensatis Betono Bazė," confirmed to the editorial board that the building's foundation and the land beneath it are the property of the company, and the municipality cannot carry out any work there without its permission.
