The Lie We Tell Women About Birth

What if the biggest lie women are told about birth is that if you “prepare properly”, everything will go to plan? A challenging or traumatic birth can leave a deep imprint. It does not just affect the early postnatal weeks. It can shape how the future feels, especially when thoughts of another pregnancy begin to surface. Fear, questions, doubt, grief, and hope often sit side by side. In this deeply honest episode, I’m joined by Helen, an incredible mum of two who I have had the honour of supporting inside my Your Pregnancy and Postnatal Journey (YPJ) programme. Helen did everything she was told she “should” do to prepare for her first birth. Yet the experience was far from what she had hoped for. When she became pregnant again, she made a powerful decision. She chose to prepare differently. She chose to understand her options. She chose to reclaim her confidence. Together, we talk about: • Birth trauma and how it can affect future pregnancies • The emotional impact of a difficult first birth • Rebuilding trust in your body and the maternity system • Preparing differently the second time around • What true informed choice actually looks like • How to feel calm and confident going into birth If you are pregnant after a traumatic birth, feeling anxious about labour, or quietly questioning your previous experience, this conversation is for you. You are not weak. You are not dramatic. And you are not alone. ⸻ Resources & Support 📚 Midwife Pip’s Guide to a Positive Birth https://www.midwifepip.com/midwife-pi... 💫 Want to feel calm, confident and fully supported through pregnancy?
