The reality of our land: clearing, surveying, and starting from scratch

Before we could build our modern straw bale house in Germany, there was still a lot to do. We cleared an overgrown plot, we raced to finish cutting trees before bird nesting season began, had an old asbestos shed removed, built our first compost piles, started the vegetable garden, and carried out the surveys required before construction could begin. This is the third chapter in our journey of building An Honest House. We’re building a modern house using straw, clay and wood, proving natural materials still belong in contemporary construction.
