The boost in the intake manifold is used to move linkages in the injection pump that allow more fuel. The more boost you build, the more fuel you get. This is good because it prevents people from rolling coal. But deleting it allows full fuel off idle without boost, which helps get heavy loads moving easier, and can help spool a turbo quicker under the right conditions.
