In my head there is a world that is impossible to define, an immense, beautiful world: the mind of the blind is not blind.” These are the words of Riccardo, an 8-year-old boy who has been blind since birth. Trying to imagine what life in the dark would be like is not easy. Trying to keep your eyes closed for a few minutes, or even a few hours, isn't enough: being blind is different from not seeing. Riccardo's life is filled with joy and love, and for him, darkness is a thread full of light. His mother Valeria and father Fabrizio are by his side at all times. Even during this quarantine. “This period is tough,” Riccardo says, “but I have my family and my two teachers, Paola and Alessia, who dedicate so much attention to me. I consider myself lucky to have so many people willing to help me.” The boy lives in Vicoforte, in the province of Cuneo, and has a passion for chocolate: "I can smell it from meters away." But his real superpower is his hearing. "Already at the age of 4," he explains, "they diagnosed me with perfect pitch: I can hear a noise and translate it into a musical note."
