Don't Buy More Plants... Shop Your Own Garden Instead

Hello everyone! One section of my front border had gradually become overrun with willow herb, and after struggling with it for several years I finally decided it was time to tackle it. Rather than clearing the entire border, I show how you can simply renovate the problem area while leaving the rest of the planting undisturbed. It's a much more manageable approach and one that many of us can achieve over a weekend. To fill the space, I shopped my own garden, dividing and moving established perennials that I already knew would thrive. I also added a few plants I'd picked up in previous garden centre sales and had been growing on until the time was right to plant them. By planning ahead, it's possible to create a lovely border without spending a fortune all at once. The border looks a little sparse at the moment—and that's completely normal. Patience is one of the most important ingredients in gardening, and a border doesn't have to look perfect on day one to become beautiful in the future. Along the way I also share plenty of tips for newer gardeners, including: 🌿 How I decide which plants to move 🌿 Why cutting transplanted perennials back helps them establish 🌿 The benefits of buying plants in end-of-season sales and growing them on until you need them 🌿 How to create a full border without spending a fortune 🌿 Why planning for next year is often better than chasing instant results Sometimes the best plants you can use are the ones you already own—and a little forward planning can save you a great deal of money. Thank you so much for spending some time with me in the garden today. I always enjoy reading your comments and replying whenever I can, so do say hello below—I’d love to hear how you fill your borders on a budget.
