【AICHI JAPAN】Travel in the EDO Period ～ TOKAIDO FUTAGAWA-SHUKU & Cluster Amaryllis in Full Bloom

Introducing recommended spots in Toyohashi City, Aichi, Japan. This time, we are visiting "Futagawa-shuku", which still retains the atmosphere of the Edo period townscape. Among them, we featured "Honjin'', "Hatagoya Seimeiya'' and "Toyohashi City Futagawa Shuku Honjin Museum". Afterwards, we took a short drive to "colony of Cluster Amaryllis in Mutsumi", where we enjoyed viewing the spider lilies, which were at their peak. "Honjin'' is an inn where "Daimyo" and other nobles stayed during the Edo period. "Honjin" is usually located in the center of the post, and includes a gate, entrance, and upper room for nobles. "Futagawa-shuku Honjin" is a very valuable building as it is one of the 111 "Honjins" that existed along the Tokaido in the late Edo period, and is one of only 2 that still exist. This is the building of the "Baba family", which once served as a "Honjin" owner in "Futagawa-shuku", but was donated to Toyohashi City. The city has carried out renovation work to restore the building and it has now returned to its original appearance at the end of the Edo period. "Hatagoya" is an inn where travelers stayed during the Edo period, and it was a one night stay with half board, which is familiar to us today. "Seimeiya'' was one of the innhouses in "Futagawa-shuku". Because of its location right next to the "Honjin", it became the lodging place for senior samurai when the "Daimyo procession" stayed at the "Honjin". There are interesting exhibits here, including a model of a meal that gives you an idea of what it was like back then. This building was donated to the city by the "Kurahashi family", and like the "Honjin", renovation work has been carried out to return it to its original appearance. At "Toyohashi City Futagawa Shuku Honjin Museum", you can learn about "Futagawa-shuku", a post town on the Tokaido. You can also learn about roads and travel during the Edo period. There are many models on display, making it easy to imagine what it was like back then. I'm surprised that the way the past travelers enjoy their journey (sightseeing famous places, hot springs, food, souvenirs, etc.) is the same as it is today. *Due to the editing of the video, the tour of the facility does not follow the original route. Note that. "The Colony of Cluster Amaryllis in Mutsumi'' is a place where you can enjoy red and white amaryllis from mid-September to early October. The deep red flowers that spreads out all over the place is worthy of its other name, "Manjushage'' (Flower of the Heavens), and is captivating with its noble and luxurious impression. This is private land and is maintained and managed by the landowner. For the enjoyment of visitors, a rest area has been set up and decorated to give a warm nostalgic feeling. In addition, "Dosojins'' are enshrined throughout the grounds.
