I Visited the Home of Germany's First President I Things to do in Stuttgart 🇩🇪

Stuttgart hides one of the most important houses in modern German history, and almost nobody talks about it. Theodor Heuss was Germany's first Federal President from 1949 to 1959. After leaving office, he retired to a quiet little house on the Killesberg hill, right next to Villa Porsche. He lived there until he died in 1963, writing his memoirs and receiving guests in three small rooms that are still preserved exactly as he left them. Today the house is a museum called Theodor-Heuss-Haus. Entry is just 2 euros, and the reconstructed living rooms with original 1950s furniture are completely free to visit. The exhibition is called Demokratie als Lebensform, which means Democracy as a Way of Life, and it walks you through five epochs of German history through the eyes of the man who helped rebuild this country after the war. I came here as a Black African man living in Germany, trying to understand the foundations of the democracy I'm now part of.
