Inside Stuttgart's Prehistoric World | Ancient Animals You Won't Believe Existed

Stuttgart is sitting on top of one of the richest fossil beds in the world and almost nobody outside Germany knows it. The Museum am Löwentor in Rosenstein Park is where the real prehistoric collection lives. Not replicas. Real fossils. Real creatures that swam, flew and walked across what is now Baden-Württemberg millions of years before humans arrived. Ichthyosaurs, marine reptiles, early dinosaurs and creatures so strange they barely look real. The Holzmaden fossil beds just outside Stuttgart produced some of the best-preserved Jurassic marine fossils ever found anywhere on earth, and most of them ended up right here in this museum. There is also a special exhibition running right now called Triassic Life — Dawn of the Age of Reptiles, taking you back 250 million years to when reptiles first took over the planet. It runs until July 2026 so you still have time to visit. If you are in Stuttgart and you think you have seen everything the city has to offer, you have not been here yet. 📍 Museum am Löwentor, Rosenstein 1, 70191 Stuttgart 🚇 U14 to Mineralbäder then walk through Rosenstein Park ⏰ Tuesday to Friday 9:00 to 17:00, weekends 10:00 to 18:00 💶 Adults €5, children free New video every Saturday.
