Der Mann, der das Universum vom Rollstuhl aus entschlüsselte | Stephen Hawking Dokumentation

Stephen Hawking is one of the most important scientists of the twentieth century—a man who, despite an incurable paralytic disease, redefined the foundations of our understanding of the universe. This biographical documentary by Alexander Weiss traces his life in ten chapters: from his childhood in an eccentric Oxford academic household, through the devastating diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis at the age of twenty-one, to the scientific breakthroughs that immortalized his name. The video highlights Hawking's most important scientific achievements: the singularity theorems he developed with Roger Penrose, which prove that the universe had an absolute beginning; the discovery of Hawking radiation, which showed that black holes are not completely black; and his contributions to cosmology, which laid the groundwork for an entire generation of theorists. At the same time, the film reveals the man behind the scientist: his marriages to Jane Wilde and Elaine Mason, his relationships with his children, the loss of his voice, and the technology that gave him a new one. The documentary also explores Hawking's role as a science communicator. His book, A Brief History of Time, published in 1988, sold more than ten million copies worldwide and made the big questions of physics accessible to a broad audience. Hawking believed that questions about the origin of the universe should not be the sole domain of specialists—and he lived by this conviction until his last day of work. Ten days before his death, he submitted a scientific paper. Stephen Hawking died on March 14, 2018—Albert Einstein's birthday. His ashes were interred in Westminster Abbey, among the graves of Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin. This documentary is an attempt to do justice to the man and the scientist—without oversimplification, without idealization, with the respect that an extraordinary life deserves.
