Behind the Scenes: SMRT Power Rail Replacement Project
#AllAboutTrains We've reached another milestone in our rail renewal programme with the completion of the Power Rail Replacement Project! A lot of hard work and numerous nights have been put into replacing almost 180km of power rail along the 30 year-old North-South and East-West Lines (NSEWL). Trains draw electricity from these power rails, which are fixed next to and slightly above the two running rails on which the train wheels travel. The replacement of the power rails increases the reliability of the network's electrical system and reduce the occurrence of power rail faults on the NSEWL. Let us take you #behindthescenes to show what goes on during power replacement works in the wee hours of the night while many of us are still asleep!
