"America and France" ("امريكياي فرنساي") by Arka Saber | English Translation

"America and France" ("امريكياي فرنساي") is a song written and performed by Arka Saber, the Beja Revolutionary Poet. The song, like many anti-Bashir songs (including "Birth," which we translated last December), draws upon Sudanese history as an inspiration, in this case calling back to the history of Beja anti-colonialism, specifically Rudyard Kipling's poem "Fuzzy-Wuzzy," an English poem praising the ferocity of the Beja resistance to English colonialism. The poem is famous in Sudan, even being referenced in songs, like Abdelkareem al-Kaabli's "The Operetta of the Sharif Zayn al-'Abdeen al-Hindi."
