東京 池袋散策 シアターグリーン通りから威光稲荷堂へ街の裏側を進む 『劇場の 幕なき道を たどり来て 稲荷の翼に 街の裏見る』

Leaving Ikebukuro Station, I was immediately disoriented by the crowds of people heading towards the east exit and the vibrant colors of the signs. In a city I rarely visit, Meiji-dori and Theater Green-dori appear before the lines on the map. Amusement arcades adorned with anime images, a row of izakayas, a green theater—these are all characteristic of Ikebukuro, but to someone unfamiliar with the area, the city itself seems like a grand stage. As I ventured further into this stage, the names of temples—Myodenji, Jozaiji, Senkoji—began to overlap with the outlines of buildings. The gates closed, the temple buildings blended seamlessly into the urban landscape, and even the places of prayer, without signs, absorbed the flow of people. Beyond Ikebukuro's theater district, only Iko Inari-do, with its chaotic grounds, seemed to embody the true face of the city. It doesn't behave like an overly polished tourist spot; the way things are placed and the structure of the shrine don't hide the fact that life and faith have long shared this same place. A cat's watchful eyes seem to be watching the grounds before any visitors do. The shrine's design somehow resembles a shadow with outstretched wings, and it seemed as if the fox shrine was imbued with the presence of another creature. The map I relied on from Ikebukuro Station was ultimately useless.
