Emotional Tracking/Awareness For Healing (Part 1) Dr. Sarno

This is the heart of chronic pain and chronic physical symptom treatment- to get in touch with our emotions. The definition of pain is a 'sensory and emotional experience'. The more chronic the pain typically the bigger emotional component. Dr. Sarno was the pioneer in explaining that physical pain and physical symptoms are a distraction from emotional pain. Scientifically, we know the emotional and physical pain centers of the brain overlap, and that the amygdala (the emotional center of the brain) can literally turn off physical pain when it quiets down. The key is to get in touch with the feelings of the emotions, not just the words. You have to learn to feel emotions while you put a word to them. This quiets the amygdala and can lead to a reduction of chronic pain or chronic physical symptoms. If you need help in this process, this is what I do with my clients, I teach them how to get in touch with emotional feelings so they don't have to have physical pains anymore.
