The former Army commander used the same language in texts to a female non-commissioned officer and the romantic partner of a high-ranking officer. Good morning. This is today's Coronell Report. A similarity in texts and procedures was key in the decision to charge General Eduardo Enrique Zapateiro, former Army commander, with sexual harassment. A female non-commissioned officer aspiring to enter the Military Academy to begin her career as an Army officer received texts substantially similar to those Zapateiro sent to the romantic partner of a high-ranking officer who reported being harassed by him. Some terms in the messages are unrepeatable out of respect for the alleged victims, but others were revealed for the first time in The Report. Zapateiro's alleged sexual harassment came to light during an administrative, not criminal, process that ordered the reinstatement to the Army of then-Colonel José Luis Esparza, whom the country knew as the ground commander of Operation Jaque. General Zapateiro arbitrarily dismissed the now-reinstated officer, who currently holds the rank of brigadier general.
