The biggest improvement I see in runners is when they begin to add structure to there training. 2. The second biggest improvement is when runners master the art of active recovery. In the video, I take you outside and show you exactly how I start a recovery run or easy run, especially in the 1-2 days after a particularly hard training session. The day before this, I did a hard interval session and really pushed it. No matter how strong your recovery, it's great to feel a little sore after hard sessions, as it shows that you're putting enough stress on the body so that when it's fully recovered, you will reap that "super-compensation." Note: The art of good training is getting to know your body well enough so that you know A) How hard you can push B) You know where the limit is. If you have the personality that wants to take on running, and you have big goals and ambitions—maybe a race already in the calendar—it's probable that you are aslo used to pushing through discomfort because you know that growth waits for you on the other side. With physical training, no matter how much we WANT to improve in our minds, we have to make sure that our body can keep up, so we want to hit those hard sessions at 80-90% of maximum effort. Finding that effort level is the secret. But how does that relate to easy or recovery running? In order to go fast, hard or long, we must be prepared to go slow and easy to recover. Remember, consistency is the key in distance running or any physical training or skill practice. To train consistently hard on a weekly basis, we must consistently recover well. Try the tips in the video; I promise they will help. When I fully accepted recovery and easy runs, I reached a whole new level in the sport, set PB's much more frequently, and avoided injury, so again, that improvement curve continued.
