Q&A with Eva Mary | Grief Writing | Finding belonging through the arts

In this Q&A, Eva Mary speaks candidly about growing up feeling profoundly different: bullied at school, very lonely, and misunderstood by many of her peers. She has lived with mental health difficulties since childhood, and at 50 is now exploring the possibility of an autism diagnosis, something her sister received at 40. She reflects on how little was understood about neurodivergence when she was growing up, and how the research of the time was built almost entirely around young boys. For girls and women, she says, it can look very different. What held her through it all was the arts. Theatre school, drama, books, writing, piano. The places where she felt happy, seen, and like she belonged. That same instinct runs through everything she offers. She is clear that nobody should feel unwelcome in her courses due to physical or mental health difficulties, shyness, or anything else. All you need is access to Zoom and the ability to write, type, or simply listen. Nobody will be pushed to speak before they are ready. And those who need to share will have space to do so.
