Why Summer is the Worst Time for Bird Photography (But Don't Give Up!)
Summer Bird Photography at Middleton Lakes | Can You Still Get Great Wildlife Photos in a Heatwave? Summer is often considered one of the most challenging times of the year for bird photography, especially during a prolonged UK heatwave. With birds keeping a low profile after the breeding season, dried-up ponds, low water levels and soaring temperatures, I wasn't expecting much from this early morning visit to Middleton Lakes RSPB. Despite the difficult conditions, I managed to photograph some beautiful Linnets, Reed Warblers feeding their chicks, and even a Common Tern fishing over the lake. I also compare shooting with and without a 1.4x teleconverter to see if the extra reach was worth it. If you've ever wondered whether it's worth heading out with your camera during the height of summer, this video shows that a little patience can still be rewarded. If you've seen any Hobbies at Middleton Lakes recently, I'd love to hear from you! Let me know in the comments where and when you've spotted them. 📍 Location: Middleton Lakes Nature Reserve, Warwickshire, UK ⏱️ Timestamps 00:00 - Heading to Middleton Lakes 00:34 - Why summer is my least favourite season for photography 01:08 - Early morning start to beat the heat 01:36 - Low water levels around the reserve 01:56 - The mosquito problem! 03:00 - A very quiet woodland walk 03:58 - First success: photographing a Linnet 04:15 - Common Tern action & 1.4x teleconverter test 05:02 - The heat really kicks in 06:49 - Reed Warblers feeding their chicks 07:40 - Bird activity slows right down 08:26 - Time to head home 09:03 - Reviewing the morning's wildlife photos 09:47 - Have you seen any Hobbies at Middleton Lakes? 10:09 - Final thoughts 📷 Birds featured in this video: • Linnet • Common Tern • Reed Warbler (feeding chicks) • Woodpeckers (heard in the woodland) 👍 If you enjoyed the video, please leave a like, subscribe and hit the notification bell for more bird photography, wildlife photography, and nature photography adventures from around the UK. #BirdPhotography #WildlifePhotography #MiddletonLakes #NaturePhotography #BirdingUK #RSPB #BirdWatching #Wildlife #Photography #Linnet #ReedWarbler #CommonTern #CanonPhotography #UKWildlife #naturereserve 🌏 My Main Photography Website: https://mrmarcburden.wixsite.com/marc... 🌏 VERO Website: https://vero.co/marcburdenphotography 🌏My facebook page. / 2704350609843252 🎵 Music: The Girl from Saint-Anne-des-Plaines - The Mini Vandals - Copyright free - Youtube audio library Skating On the Uppers - National Sweetheart - Copyright free - Youtube audio library Puppy Love - Jeremy Blake - Copyright free - Youtube audio library
