Join me for a morning of bird photography at Middleton Lakes as I search for birds in flight during one of the hottest spells of the year. After several disappointing wildlife photography trips—including Dudley Zoo and Bempton Cliffs where I completely missed the puffins—I was hoping cooler temperatures would bring the birds back into action. Unfortunately, nature had other ideas... From Black-headed Gulls, Redshanks and Greenfinches to unexpected sightings of a Green Woodpecker, Bittern and Swallows, you'll see exactly what it's like to photograph wildlife when the birds simply refuse to cooperate. Wildlife photography isn't always about perfect shots—sometimes it's about patience, persistence and making the most of difficult conditions.
