Appalachian Trail 2026 thru-hike: Day 32

Day 32 of my Appalachian Trail thru-hike! I had the best night sleep in a long time, which was odd considering where I was sleeping. Not far from Iron Mountain Gap, a small site hidden behind a log. I don’t usually sleep so well when I’m camping alone and so close to a road. The hike today was fairly easy until Little Rock Knob. The previous 20 mile day in combination with the 5 mile road walk had my feet aching. After climbing Little Rock Knob we descended down to the gap to only head right back up Roan Mountain. The climb up to the top of Roan, while only 5 miles was an average of 545 ft/mi gain. It was definitely a tough climb and the water sources were unfortunately all off of the trail. While on the half way point to the top of Roan, I had to descend .2 miles to refill my water before lunch. Normally I would fill my Sawyer bladder and my bottles to make sure I had enough, but right now I’m limited to only 1L of carry capacity. The top of Roan was awesome, even learning about the resort that used to sit atop the mountain. As views go, I’m more excited about the climb of the 3 balds tomorrow morning. With Damascus only 90 miles ahead I’m tempted to forego a new water bladder and make the push. If I can put in enough miles, I’ll be in Damascus on Sunday afternoon for the last day of Trail Days. mi 365.9 → mi 380.8 Total Miles: 14.9 Miles Thanks for watching!
