Appalachian Trail 2026 thru-hike: Day 50 | Virginia Triple Crown

Day 50 of my Appalachian Trail thru-hike! Today was a really awesome change of pace in Virginia. It’s been a great state in general while not as flat as some claim, there is definitely a lack of “sights” to see. This morning started off with a great hike with not too much elevation to finally arrive at the first stop in the Virginia “triple crown”: Dragon’s Tooth. The climb led up to a rocky summit of Cove Mountain. It was a fun climb up the tooth of the dragon despite not being willing to get to the absolute top of it. After a long break up top I headed down and continued on and finally decided to face my fears a bit on McAfee Knob by sitting on the far ledge. I suppose it’s more obligatory than climbing to the top of dragon’s tooth. The Tinker Cliffs were also incredible, I didn’t realize it was made up of so many ledges. Really a cool place to sit and relax. Tomorrow we get into the city of Daleville for a resupply. We’re likely looking at 3-4 days until the next town.
