Schönster Aussichtsberg am Luganersee: Wanderung am Monte Generoso

A beautiful hike on Monte Generoso in Ticino. The summit is considered one of the most beautiful panoramic mountains on Lake Lugano. Afterwards, we'll visit a hidden waterfall at the foot of the mountain. *Advertisement ▶ All information about Monte Generoso on Lake Lugano Timetable: https://www.montegeneroso.ch/de/plane... Everything is still a little in shadow because the sun is only slowly moving over the hills, but that also has its own magic. The lake lies before us, completely calm and serene, and at that moment I could easily have imagined simply jumping in. But we have other plans: We're going up to Monte Generoso. And we're doing it comfortably on the cogwheel train, which has been bringing visitors up here since 1890. While we wait at the station, our anticipation grows. I specifically chose to sit on the left side to have the best view of Lake Lugano during the ride. We wind our way ever upwards for about 35 minutes, past steep slopes and through tight bends, until we finally reach an altitude of 1,704 meters. Even up here at the mountain station, the view is fantastic. The air is fresh, the view clear, and to fortify ourselves, we treat ourselves to a regional herbal tea and a muffin. The herbs were gathered right here on the mountain – making the tea taste twice as good. Then we continue on foot. It's only about ten minutes to the summit, our first "real" elevation gain of the season. The rocks here appear to be stacked, almost like an artistic rock garden created by nature itself. The view from the summit is breathtaking: We see the snow-capped peaks of the Alps on the horizon, including the Gran Paradiso, the Dom, and the Dufourspitze – and at the same time, the lovely lake landscape of Ticino lies at our feet. Lake Lugano glitters, Lake Maggiore is visible, and even Lake Como can be seen in the distance. For those who dare, the ridge walk begins here. It's a narrow, spectacular path that winds along the edge of the mountain to a second peak. It's uphill and downhill repeatedly, and at times you even have to use your hands to help you. It's never really difficult, but you have to stay focused. A head for heights is a must, as there are steep descents on both sides. On the other hand, there are always those wow moments with fantastic views of the surrounding valleys and the lake. After this breezy stage, we look forward to a stop. In a small mountain restaurant with a sun terrace, we enjoy a regional risotto with Ticino sausage, rosemary, and sage. As we sit there, I'm reminded again how special this time of year is: everything is green, everything is blooming, and the fresh spring air is simply soothing. But our day isn't over yet. From the mountain restaurant, we set off for a very special destination: the Kaskata del Botto waterfall. The path there leads through an almost jungle-like area – densely vegetated slopes, the sound of rushing water in the distance, birdsong above our heads. If you look closely, you might even spot lizards and sometimes small snakes along the path. And then, suddenly, there it is: a mighty waterfall plunging from a crevice into the depths. The water cascades about 70 meters into a natural pool. Especially in spring, when the snowmelt brings particularly large amounts of water, this is a true natural spectacle. Finally, we'll show you our accommodation: We found a campsite right on Lake Lugano, where you can rent small, fully equipped caravans with their own veranda, kitchen, bathroom, and even a lake view. A super relaxing and yet close-to-nature way to vacation here. And now it's your turn: Which is your favorite lake in the Alps? Let us know in the comments!
