"Have you ever secretly smiled while watching the failure of someone who was more successful than you?" – The Tragic End of One Who Feasted on the Tears of Others (Ezekiel 25:1-11) "God, why is my life, lived in silent devotion, so harsh, while those who reign over the tears of others are doing so well?" With what heart did you open the window of your day today? We live in an era where people hide behind digital anonymity and consume someone else's painful downfall and failure as gossip. We pretend to feel pity on the surface, but deep within us, isn't there a chilling malice lurking, thinking, "Aha, how gratifying," as we watch the failure of someone who was more successful than us? Today, Ezekiel 25 is God's fierce pronouncement of judgment against the neighboring nations of Ammon and Moab, who clapped and cheered as they watched the miserable destruction of Southern Judah. ​​The world scoffed, declaring it the end as it watched God's people crumble, but the Creator God heard every single sound of that mockery without exception. Those who treated the suffering of others as a spectacle eventually degenerate into a cage for beasts (nabe), become wretched spoils (baz), and are erased from history without a trace. Walking through the barren landscape where one supports the broken lives of others, one often feels the strength drain from one's body in the face of the world's gaze, which mocks the lives of the powerless and weak with the cold yardstick of efficiency. However, do not feel wronged or intimidated by the ridicule of people. The only one who shatters the vain pride of the world and wipes away the tears of the wronged is Jehovah alone, the true Lord of history.
