"A Day When I Am Blocked on All Sides and Cannot Breathe" – Overwhelming Love That Covers the Despair of a Narrow Crack (Psalm 117:1-118:7) "God, when on earth will this suffocating situation finally end?" With what heart did you open the window of your day today? The scene of life where you vowed to willingly become the hands and feet of others, supporting their stalled daily lives. However, when you hit a massive wall of daily repetition, you feel suffocated, as if trapped in a narrow room with the ceiling tightening on all sides. When a terrible sense of powerlessness overwhelms us—that our goodwill and passion alone cannot change anything—we are often seized by fear. Today, the psalmist cries out to Jehovah right in the midst of that narrow, suffocating space of despair (Mezzar). And God the Creator hears that small groan and, in an instant, moves him onto the vast, endlessly spread earth (Mehrhab). Even if the power and systems of the world threaten me, God’s covenantal love is not merely a gentle consolation, but an overwhelming victory (Gabar) that covers up all my despair with a power so powerful it borders on violence. Stop the weary rowing of trying to break down the walls of reality with your own strength.
