Its artificial planting began during the Muromachi period, making it Japan's oldest afforestation site. In the mountains of Yoshino, cedar and cypress trees over 200 years old reach the sky. Yoshino Cedar is cultivated through repeated, painstaking thinning and dense planting, a process unique to Yoshino. It is highly acclaimed for its lustrous wood and beautiful grain. The forests where Yoshino Cedar grows, known for its beautiful timber, are protected by beautiful forest roads maintained by foresters who are experts in the mountains. With the belief that roads are important in forestry, not only the techniques but also the philosophy of forestry have been passed down. Because it takes centuries to grow trees, forestry has been preserved as "hope for the future, a gift from people of the past."
