Brasil y Perú construyen submarinos propios: el cambio naval que asusta a la región

Latin America is changing its naval history. While Brazil is moving forward with its Submarine Development Program (PROSUB), focusing on the construction of conventional submarines and its ambitious nuclear project with the SN Álvaro Alberto, Peru has taken a historic step. On December 19, 2025, SIMA Peru signed an agreement with Hyundai Heavy Industries for the co-production of submarines within the country. This change marks the beginning of a new era: from dependence on foreign countries… to building its own capabilities. With the development of the HDS-1500 submarine, Peru seeks to replace its Type 209 fleet and consolidate its naval industry, while Brazil continues to strengthen its position as a regional power with its own technology.
