✓ We were in Preston (in Lancashire) and were looking for an authentic Desi Indian Vegetarian Place to eat.....looking online we saw that there are in reality not a lot of Indian Veggie places in this part of the U.K. But we did come across "The Indian Place" and saw their online reviews were very favourable. We have to admit that what swayed us to visit them was their "Thali Tuesdays" Facebook offer of 2 freshly cooked thalis for only £10.00 The actual thali that we had consisted of: Veg Korma Chickpea Curry Freshly made Butter Chapati (Tawa Rotli) Jeera Basmati Rice (cooked with Ghee) Freshly fried Onion Pakora which was sprinkled with homemade Chaat Masala and served with Mum's Homemade chutney (made with Papaya, Mango and Raw Mango). CHANA MASALA RECIPE INGREDIENTS: Vegetable Oil (Tel) Cumin Seeds (Jeera) Mustard Seeds (Rye) Asofatida (Hing) Black Peppercorns (Kari Mari) Cloves (Laving) Cinnamon Bark (Taj) Chopped Onions (Dungri) Salt (Nimak) Water (Pani) Turmeric (Harad) Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder (Lal Marchu) Cumin Powder Coriander Powder (Dhana) Homemade spice Powder mix (Garam Masala) Dried Fenugreek Leaves (Kastoori Methi) Chopped Tomatoes (Tamata) Pre-cooked Chickpeas (soaked overnight and boiled) (Chana) Chopped fresh Green Coriander (Lila Dhana) PANEER TIKKA MASALA RECIPE: Salted Butter Vegetable Oil Makhni Gravy (80% Tomato, 20% Onion, Cardamom, Fennel Seeds, Cashew Nut Paste, Cream). Chopped Tomatoes Fried Paneer Cubes Sugar (Karn) Fresh Cream (Makhan) Green Coriander Salt (Nimak) As you probably know by now, we absolutely love "discovering" secret places like this, a Punjabi Dhaba style place (I personally call it a secret "Gujarati Dhaba" place) serving delicious restaurant quality, home cooked food; but at very affordable street food prices!!! It's in a very basic setting and very tiny but that does not detract from the generous sized portions of Indian food being served up. In this visit we watch the "Master Chef" Dakshat making the curries and the Chapati, he makes it look very easy, but it takes many years of practice and skill to get to this level of cooking.
