KVKAÑWE - Pewenche Adkvnugvn (SINOPSIS)

SYNOPSIS: KVKAÑWE is the ancestral name of the territory of the KMKEÑ (Quinquen) Community. Here, the PEWEN (araucaria) tree still grows, and the PEWENCHE (people of the pewen) have developed their lives and culture around it since time immemorial. Its meaning, "place of refuge," is related to its ancestral use, the harvesting of ÑIGLIW (piñón, the fruit of the pewen), and the existence of KONPEWEN (harvesting sites), which, in turn, are part of the implementation of a complex system of governance of the PEWENCHE territory, the ADKVNUGVN. However, this significance takes on special relevance during times when harmony in the lives of the Mapuche people is disrupted, first by the Spanish invasion, which forced many Mapuche families to seek refuge here, and later by the incursion of the Chilean state and private investors in the forestry sector who, with the aim of commercially exploiting the wood of the Pewen tree, facilitated their displacement. This audiovisual work addresses, from the perspective of ancestral knowledge and historical memory, the uses and significance of the Pewen tree, as well as the process of defending their ancestral territory and their right to exist as a culture, through the narrative of its protagonists, the Pewenche people of Kvkañwe (Kmkeñ-Quinquen community).
