Are We Judging Fragrances Too Quickly? - Fragrance Updates ep18

In this Fragrance Updates episode, I’m reflecting on the pressure to have immediate opinions in fragrance reviewing — and why some perfumes might need more time before they fully reveal themselves. This connects to something I mentioned in the previous episode: my fascination with signature scents, especially temporary or periodical signature scents. A fragrance worn for a season, a trip, a project, or a specific chapter of life can become more than just something we test. It can become attached to memory, mood, and a particular version of ourselves. First impressions can be useful, and I still enjoy them. But they are not always the same as understanding. Some fragrances only become legible through repeated wearings, different weather, ordinary days, and the slow accumulation of personal meaning. So this episode is also a small defense of saying: “I don’t know yet.” Maybe that isn’t the absence of an opinion. Maybe it’s the beginning of a better one. Let me know how you approach this: do you usually know quickly whether a fragrance works for you, or do some perfumes need time before they click?
