Arlene Iawphniaw & Na U Bnai – Performing “Por Tamasa” written & Composed by Mebanker Lapang & Desmond Rimaki Sunn Na U Bnai is a collection of musicians who are on a mission to showcase khasi traditional music to the masses especially to the youth, with the help of their 11-year-old vocalist Arlene M. Iawphniaw, studying in class 5 at Synod Higher Secondary School, who is one of the youngest and upcoming khasi singer from Shillong who has a powerful yet elegant voice that is perfect for this genre and you it’s hard to imagine it coming from an 11 year old girl. Na U Bnai is also enthusiastic to play rockabilly and classic oldies as well, making the group quite flexible when it comes to music. As the Band, Na U Bnai we have won many competitions and also won the Best Theme Song at the Meghalaya Icon 2023 as organized by the Meghalaya Aids Control Society (MACS) and also the JEDI Award organised by the Society of Labour and Development Agency. With such young talents you can bet that they’ll achieve even more in the not so distant future.
