I have strong feelings about this one...
Lucas Bergvall reportedly wants a fresh start. And he's right to want one. This isn't a "we should keep him at all costs" video. It also isn't a "good riddance" video. It's the one nobody else is making — Bergvall is 20, ambitious, fighting for his career, and Spurs have just signed Conor Gallagher, are closing in on Tonali, and are linked with Mateus Fernandes. He's falling down the pecking order while the squad above him gets stronger. Of course he wants to play. The bigger point: Spurs need to stop treating it personally when young players ask to leave. It happened with Vuskovic. It's happening with Bergvall. Archie Gray will be next if we use him as a backup. These are not "shut up and serve your contract" situations — these are humans with five-year ambitions trying to reach the level the club's recruiting at. The bigger reframe: Spurs aren't a stepping stone club anymore. Bournemouth — Bournemouth — are buying ready-now players from Porto. The Premier League has changed. We've spent years building the revenues to compete with senior, proven players. So compete with them. Let the young ones go play. Welcome them back later if their development takes them somewhere bigger than us. Or sell them now for the value they have and don't act surprised when their ambition outgrows a cameo role. The Spurs of five years ago needed academy graduates. The Spurs of today doesn't. And both of those things can be true at the same time.
