Beginning Written Narration With a 10.5 Year Old (Year 4, Ambleside Online)
Join Blue and Hazel’s newsletter: https://bit.ly/blueandhazelnewsletter In this video, I'll be sharing our experience beginning written narration with my 10.5 year old. This is the progression in a Charlotte Mason homeschool, going from oral narration to written narration and later on to composition. We began 1 written narration/week after doing 2 full terms (24 weeks) of oral narration only. I think it was very beneficial for us to spend 1-2 terms doing that so he could get the hang of it. I'll share his first 2 narrations at the end of the video, around 10 or 11 minutes if you want to see those. Things to expect: *Older kids (around age 10) new to the CM method should begin with JUST oral narration for up to a year before adding written narration. You decide when to introduce it based on the strength and quality of their oral narrations, as some kids will be ready much sooner! The older the child, the faster they'll likely catch onto oral narration and be ready to do written narration (especially if they're already used to writing more). *Written narrations will initially be shorter, choppier, and may include incomplete sentences. It's not uncommon for a really good oral narrator to only come up with a few sentences at first when asked to write. *No need to correct their written narration, or mention incorrect spelling. They can even read it back to you instead of you reading it. The important part is them learning to sort the information as they write. FTC Disclaimer: This video is not sponsored.
