Family Style History: Yes or No? What Surprised Me Using Ambleside Online

We began our homeschool journey with one 1st grader listening to history picture books from Beautiful Feet Books. The following year I tried reading Master Books Early American History to 2 kids (1st and 2nd grade, loved it). The next year we got off track and followed a shiny new US history curriculum for 2nd and 3rd grade (Gather Round, quit after 3 months and went back to Master Books). That's when a friend told me about Charlotte Mason homeschooling, fell in love with the idea, and I looked for Charlotte Mason curriculum. I found Ambleside Online and Simply Charlotte Mason, and tried AO the next year with a 1st grader, 3rd grader, and 4th grader. Each kid has their own books for history, which was new and scary. I'd never schooled 3 kids before either, with a 4 yaer age gap between my 1st grader and 4th grader. (Their reading level and comprehension and attention span was VERY different). Watch to see why I like having kids in different years, despite hours and hours of trying to see how we could "combine" and have the best of both worlds (AO books and kids all together).
