GOODBYE SCOUT… FOR NOW? 💔 Falconshire Raptors Live Cam Goes Dark | Eaglets Sunday & Scout

Falconshire Raptors | West Michigan 🦅 Resident bald eagle pair: Soren & Skye Eaglets: Sunday (FR3) & Scout (FR4) Falconshire Raptors have shut down the live stream, at least for now. I understand why so many people are emotional and upset right now. Scout has touched a lot of hearts. 💔🦅 However, shutting down the livestream does not change what is happening in the nest itself. Falconshire Raptors is likely facing an overwhelming situation right now, with intense public pressure, concern, and scrutiny from thousands of viewers. As difficult as this situation has been to watch, intervention in wild bald eagle nests is extremely restricted and requires federal approval. Even when injuries or sibling aggression are present, rescue permits are often denied unless very specific criteria are met. Many people wished Scout could have been removed earlier. Others believed Scout still had a chance in the nest. These situations are never simple, and emotions understandably run very high. Right now, I think everyone is hoping for the same thing: that both eaglets somehow make it safely to fledge. Yesterday was an extremely difficult day to watch. Scout was attacked several times by Sunday, repeatedly in the same area, the right wing/shoulder. That injury has become much more obvious, and after one feeding, Scout was even seen picking at the wing and pulling off a small piece of hanging skin. Scout did manage to get a full crop after breakfast from part of a fawn carcass, but he paid dearly for it. Later in the day, Scout mantled and claimed a very small fish delivery. He has clearly learned how to grab and mantle prey, but he still cannot hold onto it against Sunday. Sunday approached from behind, grabbed Scout by the right leg, and dragged him backward. Scout lost the fish. While Sunday ate, Scout was left watching for any small opportunity to snatch a bite, eventually ending up balanced dangerously on the very edge of the nest rails. One push from Sunday, or one sudden move by Scout trying to avoid an attack, could have sent him over. Scout is facing several serious threats now: not enough food, ongoing aggression, a worsening wing injury, and repeated moments where he ends up too close to the edge of the nest. The concern from viewers is real and valid. At the same time, we also understand the painful reality of watching a live streamed bald eagle nest. This is nature in the raw. It is not scripted, and the outcome is not always what we hope for. It can be stressful, heartbreaking, and incredibly hard to witness. I understand why Falconshire Raptors turned off the live stream for now. They were receiving hundreds of distress messages and emails about Scout. From what has been shared, they have applied for a rescue permit, apparently more than once, but those requests were denied because this is being treated as a natural event, escalated sibling rivalry during a time when there simply does not appear to be enough food coming in to sustain two 8 week old eaglets. That does not make it easier to watch. We are all rooting for Scout.
