STELLA KNOCKS TWO BALD EAGLE EAGLETS FROM THE NEST! 😳 Steller's Eagle vs Bald Eagle

The video begins with a remarkable sight: a Steller's Sea Eagle perched alongside Bald Eagles in Newfoundland. A rare but seemingly peaceful scene, and a reminder that encounters between these giant raptors do occur. Steller's Sea Eagles are among the largest and most powerful eagles in the world. Native to the Russian Far East, they normally migrate to Japan and Korea during the winter months. Yet every so often, one appears thousands of miles away in North America. Encounters like this are rare, but perhaps not quite as rare as many people believe. Over the decades, there have been multiple documented sightings of Steller's Sea Eagles in Canada and Alaska. There was even a little-known case from the Taku River region near Juneau, Alaska, where a Bald Eagle reportedly paired with a Steller's Sea Eagle during the late 1980s and 1990s and produced offspring. Perhaps the most famous wandering Steller's Sea Eagle is Stella. Over several years, Stella captivated birders and wildlife enthusiasts across North America, becoming one of the most recognized wild eagles in the world. Then, in 2025, a Steller's Sea Eagle believed to be Stella became involved in what may be the most remarkable Steller's Sea Eagle and Bald Eagle interaction ever documented. While visiting an active Bald Eagle nest in Newfoundland, the giant eagle knocked two fledging-age eaglets from the nest. The adult Bald Eagles immediately responded, repeatedly chasing the Steller's Sea Eagle from the area. Fortunately, both eaglets survived the encounter, landing safely in branches below and returning to the nest unharmed the following day. In this video Stella knocks one of the eaglets off a perch, right by the nest.. The Steller's Sea Eagle then made itself at home in the Bald Eagle Nest and was later observed feeding on scraps of fish that remained in the nest. Was the fish the true target? Was this simply an attempt to obtain an easy meal? Or was something else taking place? Whatever the reason, this may be the only known documented case of a Steller's Sea Eagle knocking Bald Eagle eaglets from an active nest. How many Steller's Sea Eagles are actually reaching Canada and Alaska? And how often are they interacting with Bald Eagles without anyone ever knowing? Today, Stella continues to be seen regularly in the North River, Newfoundland area.
