Bernard listened attentively from childhood, showing extraordinary piety and exceptional intelligence. He studied the liberal arts and excelled especially in eloquence; he spoke sweetly, his words flowing like honey, a golden river. Around fifteen years old, his mother became seriously ill. Bernard, his son, called to leave the world and serve only Christ. He renounced vanities and promised, "You will be God." Bernard wept and solemnly promised his mother, "I will be God completely." His mother died, leaving him devastated but determined to fulfill his promise. ⛪ THIRTY COMPANIONS OF CÎTEAUX Twenty-two years old Bernard decided to leave the world and enter a monastery, but he wasn't alone.
