Splashy Underwater Fish in Watercolor: Alcohol Texture, Drips & Negative Painting Hi, I’m Valerie Englehart, and in this episode I’m painting a white-and-orange fish floating underwater, building the background in the very first wash and using rubbing alcohol to create marks, flicks, and lovely drips. I’ll show you how I plan the simple fish shapes, then use negative painting to carve the fish edge so it feels like it’s sitting in water instead of floating in space. I’m working with Palaiba Diamond Blue and a big size 30 round brush to cover the water area quickly, keeping things loose and splashy while avoiding going too far. We’ll also glaze a super-light shadow on the bottom of the white fish and soften the line, then finish with a bit of optional sparkle for shimmery underwater fun.
