He Fought a Murder Charge for 8 1/2 Years | Erico Montalvo

Erico Montalvo is from Providence, Rhode Island, and his life changed forever on what was supposed to be a celebration. In July 2015, while celebrating his 18th birthday, Erico says he was robbed and assaulted. During the altercation, while defending himself, another man lost his life. Shortly afterward, Erico was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. For the next eight and a half years, he fought that charge before ultimately accepting a plea to manslaughter under circumstances he describes as involving self-defense. In total, Erico spent 10 years incarcerated before returning home. Now, a year and a half after his release, Erico is focused on rebuilding his life, reconnecting with society, and using his testimony to help others avoid the mistakes and circumstances that changed the course of his life. In this episode of Dog In The Yard, Erico shares his perspective on that night, the years spent fighting his case, life behind bars, and the mission that now drives him every day.
