Interns are both doctors and students, and they must assume significant responsibilities towards patients. Faced with a shortage of doctors, interns have become the backbone of hospitals, working an average of 59 hours a week and often much more. With grueling work schedules and enormous responsibilities, more and more are reaching their breaking point; 21% of interns are even said to have suicidal thoughts. On strike on January 29th, they are protesting the reform that extends their internship by a year, thus lengthening their years of study and their ordeal. At the emergency room of Fréjus Hospital, Envoyé Spécial shared the daily lives of the interns, a mix of passion and pressure.
