ALCO RS III Idles Properly After Six Years of Sitting!!! Thursday 9/3/15
Technically "Part Two" of our journey getting this beauty back to health! After much work this baby finally idles all on its own without "much" assistance. The governor, which had been a supposed issue for many years finally seems to working like it should. Now only certain electrical parts are preventing the engine from "throttling-up" once it is moved in a throttle setting higher than notch one. Stay tuned as we will continue to get this baby fully operational again! Video takes place in the shops at the Florida RR Museum shops in Willow, (Wimauma) FL. Key ponts of interest: From the beginning of the video to 6:55 we are still playing with it to try to get it to idle right. After 6:55, we literally had a miracle in that its idle smoothed out to where it wasn't "hunting" (throttling up and down) and it idled all on its own. At 14:55 I recorded one last time this beauty starting up and emitting lots of the good ole ALCO smoke. Then I do a walk around and film the engine block up close to really get that classic ALCO sound. Enjoy!
