Peckham once labeled one of London’s most dangerous neighbourhoods is also home to one of the UK’s largest Nigerian communities. But what’s the real story behind this place? In this episode, I explore Peckham with my British-Nigerian friend Bukola, who grew up here. She takes me through the estate she was raised in, once considered unsafe, and shares what life was really like growing up Nigerian in South London. From the tragic story of Damilola Taylor, to how Nigeria’s 1970s oil crash pushed thousands to migrate to the UK, this film unpacks how Peckham became a home for Nigerians seeking opportunity.
