Welcome to ‘Learn English with Deaf Talks’. Today we are learning about PRONOUN We use pronouns every day. In fact, even if you don’t know what pronouns are, you use them. Let’s start with a small story. I think everyone knows this. Once upon a time, there was a kind and generous king named Midas. He ruled over a beautiful kingdom and was loved by his people. However, King Midas had one wish – he wanted everything he touched to turn into gold. ✨ One day, the god Dionysus heard of King Midas' wish and decided to grant it to him. Midas was thrilled and began touching various things, turning them into shiny gold. 🥖But soon, King Midas realized that his wish was not as wonderful as he had thought. When he tried to eat his favourite food, it turned into a hard gold apple. When he hugged his daughter, she turned into a golden statue. King Midas was very sad and realized that his golden touch was a curse. 😢 He pleaded with Dionysus to take back his wish. The god understood Midas' regret and told him to go to the river and wash away his golden touch. Midas did as he was told and as soon as he touched the water, the golden touch disappeared. 🌊 From that day onward, King Midas learned the importance of appreciating the things that are more valuable than gold – his family, friends, and happiness. He became a wiser and kinder king, and his kingdom flourished even more. Do you enjoy the story? Do you know why I chose this? If you see the story, we use the word ‘ King’ many times. But did we use the word ‘King’ again and again. Instead, we use ‘he, him, his etc, right. Using these words is called PRONOUNS. Pronouns are words we use instead of names to make our sentences sound better and avoid repeating the same word over and over again. Eg; I, he, she, it, them, his, yours, anyone, nobody, who, etc. For example, He came to my home yesterday or She is my best friend. There different types of pronouns 1.Personal Pronouns: Personal pronouns are words we use instead of someone's name. They tell us who is doing the action. For example: "I love to play. You are my friend. He is funny. She likes to dance. I never use the name Babloo more than once.” 2.Possessive Pronouns (PSSP): Possessive pronouns show ownership or possession. They tell us who something belongs to. For example: "This toy is mine." "Her dress is pretty." "This is our house." 3.Demonstrative Pronouns (DP): Demonstrative pronouns help us point to something specific. They tell us which person or thing we are talking about. For example: "This is my favourite toy," "Look at that bird in the sky," "These cookies are delicious," 4.Interrogative Pronouns (ITP) : Interrogative pronouns help us ask questions. They are used to find out information. Examples include: - Who, whom, whose, which, what - For example: "Who is your best friend?" "Whose bag is this?" "Which colour do you like?" "What is the answer?" 5.Indefinite Pronouns (IDP) : Indefinite pronouns talk about people or things in a nonspecific way. Examples include: - Everyone, someone, anybody, nobody, everything, something For example: "Everyone is invited to the party," "Someone left their backpack here," "Anybody can learn to swim," Hope everyone is clear.
