1980 Aston Martin V8 Vantage | Ex Victor Gauntlett | Nicholas Mee & Co | Aston Martin | Classic Cars
Hand built by the engineers and craftsmen at Newport Pagnell, less than 350 V8 Vantages were built over a twelve-year period. You’d have got just £1 change form £40,000 should you had bought a new Aston Martin V8 Vantage in 1980 but the lucky owner could have rested, assured they will have owned the fastest standard production car ever produced. 00:00 Introducing the Ex Victor Gauntlett V8 Vantage 00:52 Driving the V8 Vantage 01:52 History of the car by Richard Gauntlett 02:40 V8 Vantage Car Specs 03:20 Closing note by Richard Gauntlett This car was the personal property of former CEO and chairman, Victor Gauntlett, a keen driver and classic car collector. Victor’s legendary reign over Aston Martin in the 1980s is well recorded and whilst in his ownership, this superb car was loaned to Motor and Car magazine who carried out full road tests of PBM 744W. Motor magazine fully figured road test recorded this actual V8 Vantage, giving 0-62 mph in 5.2 seconds and a top speed of 168 mph thus becoming the fastest production 4-seater in the world. Their road test highlights the superb road manners, remarking others may have more cornering G-force but none offer more feel, predictability or more control than the Vantage. Car magazine headlined with, ‘Exclusive, Exquisite, Exhilarating’. Passing into new hands some years later, PBM was purchased in 2007 by a respected marque specialist, who over the course of some 6 years carried out a substantial restoration, bringing the car to its current and excellent condition. Works included chassis and body restoration, bare metal re-paint and full mechanical rebuild including the engine, transmission, suspension braking and electrical systems. With all works completed in 2013, since when the car has been used sparingly only for concours events, as befits this highly venerated and well recorded example of Britain’s First Supercar. Available at our Hertfordshire home, this exceptional and rapid V8 Vantage is offered inclusive of its restoration statement and photographs, a copy of Motor and Car magazine’s road tests, a scheduled service, detailed health check list, 12 months warranty and new MOT certificate.
