How much protein do I need to build muscle? Who really needs a lot of protein? We usually always consume enough protein in our food; however, if you want to build muscle, you need more than average. However, if it gets too much, protein can also be dangerous for the body. Know your protein upper limit! Do you like my channel and want to say thank you? Become a channel member and receive exclusive benefits:    / @doktorweigl1   Protein has become mainstream in recent years. Protein shakes (e.g., whey protein) used to be only for die-hard bodybuilders, but now more and more ambitious amateur athletes are turning to them. Even those who want to lose weight usually follow a low-carb, high-protein diet. In my opinion, this often makes a lot of sense, because athletes in particular have an increased protein requirement and can only optimally nourish their muscles after physical exertion if they get enough protein. However, those who regularly consume protein shakes, high-protein puddings and spreads, or one of the many other products, while also consuming a lot of animal products, can quickly exceed their needs. A lot doesn't always help a lot; in fact, it can be dangerous for the body. This is how much protein the body needs. The protein limit: This isn't as difficult as one might think. The German Nutrition Society recommends approximately 0.8–1.5g per kilogram of body weight. A 60-kg woman also needs 60g of protein per day, while a 90-kg man needs 90g. And now the important thing: This is about long-term requirements. First of all: If you consume significantly more for a short period of time, such as a few days or even a few weeks, that's relatively unproblematic. We're talking about years, decades. This is what happens when there's too much protein in the body: When protein is broken down in the body, uric acid is produced. Too much protein leads to an excess of uric acid in the body, which must be excreted. We therefore need to drink especially much if we consciously or unconsciously consume a lot of protein. Since excretion occurs via the kidneys, we should really treat our kidneys to more fluids. 3-4 liters is optimal to ensure we're well-nourished even with increased protein consumption. Pay attention to how much protein you consume: It's ideal if we manage to consume protein from animal or natural sources four times a day. Low-fat meat or organic dairy products are ideal for this. The researchers concluded that approximately 0.4g per kg of body weight can be optimally broken down per meal. While this would not reach the theoretical maximum of 2g per kg of body weight with four meals a day, further processing in the body would be optimal.
