In the fall of 2024, I was fortunate enough to visit Plavsk in the Tula region. I'd been wanting to visit Plavsk for a long time, ever since the COVID-19 epidemic began in Russia. There were no direct tickets to Bryansk, so I had to travel to Oryol via the Tula region and then the town of Plavsk. Knowing where I'd be passing through, I took out an Atom Fast 8850 dosimeter-radiometer, which is very sensitive to gamma radiation, and placed it on the train window in the hopes of detecting at least some contamination. And, as they say, the prank was a success. As I approached Plavsk, the dose rate rose to 30 μR/h. The dosimeter transmitted its readings via Bluetooth to my smartphone screen.
