Wrecks, Spurdogs & Pollack — A Mixed Bag Day on Belfast Lough | Belfast Lough Man

The plan was simple — work the wreck, target some tope in deep water, and finish with a cliff drift for pollack. The sea had other ideas. We kicked off over the wreck but couldn't buy a bite, though we did get a front-row seat to the Stena Line having to navigate around a small boat — a good reminder of just how busy Belfast Lough can get and why situational awareness matters out there. From the wreck we headed out into deeper water chasing tope, but it was spurdogs that showed up instead. Not what we were after, but these scrappy little sharks are always welcome — and a reminder that offshore fishing rarely goes exactly to plan. We rounded the day off with a drift along the cliffs targeting pollack, but with almost no drift running and the water clarity less than ideal, we had to work hard for one modest fish before calling it. Blank spells, unexpected catches, ferry dodging — that's Belfast Lough. And honestly, still a brilliant day on the water. 📍 Belfast Lough | Offshore Wreck | Deep Water Spurdog | Cliff Pollack 🎣 Tight lines — I'm Iain and this is Belfast Lough Man.
