Although it's rare for pumps in front loading washing machines to fail, they do occasionally clog up and then the machine may throw up an error code because it couldn't drain within a set time. In most machines it's easy to access the sump filter from the front of the machine from behind a pop-off kick plate. Note that when the sump cover is removed all remaining water in the machine will pour out of it. Make sure that the seal is correctly seated when putting it back in.
