In the Ito district of Fukuoka City's Nishi Ward, where Shusenji Junior High School is located, land readjustment work began in 1997. In 2005, the JR Chikuhi Line's "Kyudai-Gakken-Toshi Station" opened, and in the same year, Kyushu University began relocating to its Ito campus. As a result, approximately 19,000 students and faculty members moved to or began commuting to the Ito district. Furthermore, urbanization progressed, with farmland being converted into residential areas and commercial facilities, and the population of Fukuoka City's Nishi Ward increased by more than 56,000 since 1997. At Moto-oka Junior High School in the Ito district, the number of students exceeded 1,000 in 2021, and as of May last year, it had 38 classes and 1,138 students, making it the largest junior high school in the city. Due to a surge in student numbers, prefabricated school buildings were set up on the school grounds to accommodate the increased demand.
