MEMORY TEXT: “Not only that, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us” (Romans 5:3–5). A young girl was walking home at dusk when a fierce storm broke out. She quickened her pace, as she still had a way to go. A raindrop fell on her cheek, then another, and before she knew it, she was soaked. She began to run until she reached her house and suddenly opened the door. Her father rushed to cover her with a blanket. As he did so, he said, “I saw you through the window when it started to rain. Why did you stop running with each flash of lightning, look up, and smile?” “I stopped to look up because God was taking my picture,” she replied. What is our response when life’s storms come or when we experience setbacks in our relationship with God? Do we lower our heads as the rain pours down on our backs, or do we look to Heaven, confident that God is there?
